Tijuana operations net CJNG cocaine tunnel and two US fugitives

Mexican law‑enforcement agencies carried out simultaneous operations in Tijuana that resulted in the seizure of a sophisticated narcotunnel attributed to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the capture of two fugitives wanted by U.S. authorities. The tunnel, discovered near the Otay Mesa crossing, stretched about 589 m underground, featured electricity, ventilation, rail tracks and a hydraulic access system, and contained more than a ton of cocaine valued at roughly $45 million. The investigation, involving Homeland Security Investigations, Border Patrol, DEA, FBI and local Mexican forces, led to the arrest of four suspects – two U.S. residents and two Mexicans – on conspiracy and drug‑trafficking charges.

In a separate but related sweep, the Enlace Internacional unit of the Baja California State Security Force detained Shaina N, a 31‑year‑old California woman with three U.S. warrants, and Omid N, a 47‑year‑old man driving a stolen Lexus, after coordinated inspections in the city centre and northern district. Both were found in possession of marijuana and were turned over to the National Institute of Migration for extradition to the United States, underscoring intensified cross‑border cooperation against crime.
