Tijuana River canalization inspected for flood prevention
Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda has ordered an inspection of the Tijuana River canalization to prepare for potential heavy rainfall caused by the “El Niño” phenomenon. Inspection teams from various levels of government examined hydraulic infrastructure, viaduct pillars, and floodgates.
The inspection identified several risks, including silt, debris, and waste blocking the water channel. In response, authorities have agreed to immediate mitigation efforts, including debris removal, dredging, and deep cleaning to ensure water flow. Additionally, social welfare and civil protection agencies will coordinate the relocation of homeless individuals currently residing within the canalization to ensure their safety and human rights.
