Tijuana unemployment reaches highest level in 14 quarters

The unemployment rate in Tijuana reached 2.7% during the second quarter of 2026, marking its highest level in 14 quarters. According to data from the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE) by INEGI, the city's economically active population consisted of 936,089 people, with 25,642 individuals unemployed.

This represents an approximate 32% annual increase in the number of unemployed persons compared to the same quarter in 2025. The majority of the employed population in Tijuana is concentrated in the tertiary sector, which includes commerce and services, followed by the secondary industrial sector.

This trend aligns with rising unemployment across the state of Baja California, where the rate rose from 2.3% to 2.9% between the second quarter of 2025 and the same period in 2026.
