TikTok adoption shifts real estate practices in Cameroon
In Cameroon, TikTok is emerging as a primary digital storefront for the housing market. Real estate agents are increasingly moving away from traditional methods, such as physical posters and signboards, in favor of short-form video content.
Agents use smartphones to film comprehensive tours of properties, including kitchens, bathrooms, access roads, and surrounding neighborhoods. The platform’s recommendation algorithm allows these listings to reach a broader audience, including potential renters who were not actively searching for housing.
This digital shift is also addressing long-standing issues of mistrust between agents and clients. By providing visual transparency through video before any physical visits occur, the platform helps reduce deceptive practices and prevents clients from paying viewing fees for properties that do not meet their expectations.
