TikTok CEO predicts AI-driven scientific breakthroughs within three years
TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew predicts that artificial intelligence will drive significant scientific breakthroughs in physics, biotechnology, chemistry, and materials science within the next two to three years. Speaking at the DBS Asia Future Forward Conference in Singapore, Chew stated that such advancements are ‘very, very, very possible’ as the technology moves beyond consumer applications like content creation into fundamental research.
ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, is already expanding its AI research into these scientific sectors. This includes the development of models like Protenix-v2, which focuses on predicting and designing biomolecular structures to accelerate drug discovery. This shift aligns with a broader global trend where technology giants and governments are investing billions to apply AI to biological modeling and cellular research.
Despite the optimistic outlook, Chew issued warnings regarding the rapid evolution of AI. He highlighted critical challenges concerning cybersecurity, the rise of autonomous agents, and the necessity of model alignment to ensure machines act in accordance with human ethics and values.
