TikTok implements AI-generated content labels in Portugal

TikTok has begun implementing automatic labels for AI-generated content in Portugal as part of a broader rollout across Europe. The platform is adhering to the Content Credentials standard established by the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA).

When videos are created or edited using compatible AI tools—such as those from OpenAI or Adobe Firefly—the synthetic origin is recorded in the metadata, triggering an automatic “AI-generated content” label on the screen. This system also extends to AI-cloned audio and images to help users distinguish between real and synthetic media, particularly regarding public figures and news.

The acceleration of this labeling is driven by the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA), which requires large online platforms to implement measures against disinformation, including the clear labeling of manipulated content.
