TikTok restores advertising account for Elon Musk documentary
TikTok has restored the advertising account for the documentary ‘Musk’, directed by Alex Gibney, following a brief suspension. The platform initially issued a “permanent suspension” of the account used by distributor Bleecker Street, citing a repeated pattern of political content that violated platform policies.
The suspension occurred as the film was expanding its theatrical release to more than 470 screens across North America. While the ban caused significant disruption to the film’s promotional campaign during a critical release window, a TikTok spokesperson later clarified that the restriction was due to a “technical error” and confirmed the account has been reinstated.
The documentary, which examines the life and business activities of Elon Musk, had previously faced advertising hurdles on other platforms. Meta and YouTube had initially rejected promotional content for the film but later reversed those decisions, attributing the initial rejections to errors. Meanwhile, Musk-owned platform X reportedly declined to host paid promotions for the documentary.
