TikTok privacy and account management features explained

TikTok offers various privacy and account management features that allow users to control their visibility and content access. Users with public accounts can have their videos viewed by anyone, including those who do not follow them, and their content may appear in search results or the For You feed. Conversely, private accounts require users to approve follower requests before anyone can access restricted content.

While a private account increases content protection, it does not provide complete anonymity. Basic profile information, such as usernames, display names, profile pictures, and bios, remains visible to visitors. TikTok currently does not offer a specific setting to hide a bio; the only way to make it invisible is to remove the text entirely.

For users wishing to step away from the platform, TikTok provides options to either temporarily deactivate an account or delete it permanently. Deactivation allows for future reactivation, whereas deletion is intended for permanent removal.
