TikTok removes investigative videos and bans journalist account
TikTok has removed several investigative videos and issued account penalties following reports of content critical of Islam and footage alleging election vulnerabilities in Minnesota.
Journalist Cam Higby had his verified account permanently banned after posting clips from an undercover report involving James O'Keefe. The footage, filmed in Minneapolis, aimed to demonstrate Minnesota’s ‘voter vouching’ system, which allows a registered voter to sign an affidavit for an unregistered individual. TikTok cited ‘election misinformation’ as the reason for the ban and video removal.
Additionally, creator Nate Friedman reported that TikTok removed his documentary regarding Islam in Dearborn, Michigan, which had garnered over 230,000 likes. Friedman stated the platform stripped him of the video's earnings and issued a warning that a single further violation would result in a permanent ban. He noted that no detailed explanation was provided beyond generic references to community standards.
