TikTok restores advertising account for Alex Gibney’s Elon Musk documentary
TikTok has reversed its decision to suspend the advertising account for Bleecker Street, the distributor of Alex Gibney’s documentary “Musk.” The platform stated that the previous “permanent suspension,” which was based on a “repeated pattern of political content,” was an error.
Bleecker Street reported that the restriction occurred as the film expanded to more than 470 screens across North America, limiting promotional opportunities during a key release window. While TikTok has restored the account, the platform noted that its rules regarding political content still apply and has previously flagged material related to the film.
The nearly four-hour documentary chronicles the personal, professional, and political life of Elon Musk, covering his business ventures, the acquisition of X, and his involvement in the second Trump administration. Because Musk declined to be interviewed, director Alex Gibney utilized an AI-generated avatar to present Musk’s views using quotes from his past interviews.
