TikTok shuts Nashville office, lays off 250 staff

TikTok announced the closure of its Nashville office in the Moore Building on Music Row, ending operations on October 5 and terminating all local employees, estimated at around 250 workers. The company said the move was intended to “streamline operations and better align teams for long‑term growth.”

The office, occupying roughly 143,600 square feet, was opened in April 2024 after a major lease agreement that tripled TikTok’s footprint in the city. The shutdown follows a series of workforce reductions across TikTok’s global divisions, including cuts to Trust & Safety teams in Dublin, Singapore and the United Kingdom, and a shift toward AI‑driven content moderation.

TikTok’s U.S. joint venture, TikTok USDS, was formed earlier this year with investors Silver Lake, Oracle and MGX each holding a 15% stake, positioning the venture to operate independently of its Chinese parent ByteDance. The Nashville closure is viewed as part of this broader restructuring effort aimed at creating a leaner, more technology‑focused operation in the United States.
