TikTok trend involves men shaving eyelashes for masculinity

A viral trend on TikTok has emerged where men are shaving their eyelashes under the claim that doing so makes them appear ‘more masculine’. One video demonstrating the practice has garnered over 36 million views.

Medical professionals are warning against the practice, noting that eyelashes serve vital health functions. According to physician Paramdeep Bilkhu, eyelashes protect the eyes by preventing dirt, debris, sweat, and dead skin cells from entering the eye, while also reducing exposure to harmful UV radiation.

Furthermore, removing eyelashes can compromise the blink reflex, which is triggered by the sensitivity of the lashes to protect the eyes from approaching objects. Doctors also warn of physical risks, such as cuts or scratches from electric shavers or puncture wounds from scissors used near the sensitive eye area.
