TikTok US seeks 4 gigawatts of computing capacity for AI expansion
TikTok’s US operations, managed through the TikTok USDS Joint Venture, are seeking to secure up to four gigawatts of computing capacity by the early 2030s. This move aims to support the platform's expanding artificial intelligence operations, including the development of new AI products and the management of increasingly complex digital workloads.
The company currently relies primarily on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to manage its US service operations, recommendation algorithms, and data security. Under the joint venture structure—which involves stakeholders such as Oracle, Silver Lake, and MGX alongside parent company ByteDance—TikTok intends to use localized domestic cloud environments to retrain, test, and update its recommendation engine using US user data.
The reported demand for massive computing power highlights how the race for infrastructure is expanding beyond specialized AI developers to include major social media platforms. Securing this capacity in advance is intended to prepare for the high storage, network throughput, and inference compute requirements necessary for real-time machine learning systems.
