TikTok videos advertise clandestine trips from Ceuta to Algeciras

Videos circulating on TikTok are openly advertising clandestine boat trips between Ceuta and Algeciras. One specific video shows four Moroccan youths traveling on a motorboat across the Strait of Gibraltar during daylight hours, with the operator filming the journey and inviting interested parties to contact the account via direct message (DM).

The footage, which features music referencing the Campo de Gibraltar and local smuggling, presents irregular migration with a sense of normalcy. This trend has prompted warnings from the Asociación Unificada de Guardias Civiles (AUGC), which notes that smuggling networks use these routes daily.

The AUGC highlights the extreme danger of using 'Phantom' type vessels, which often lack radar and are difficult to navigate in fog. These networks reportedly charge up to 10,000 euros per person for transport to the Spanish mainland, increasing the risk of accidents in one of the Mediterranean's busiest maritime corridors.
