Til Kumar Menyangbo set to assume Koshi Province chief minister role

Til Kumar Menyangbo, deputy leader of the CPN‑UML parliamentary party in Nepal's Koshi Province, has begun receiving congratulatory messages after indicating he has received a “green signal” to become the province's next chief minister. He told Republica from Kathmandu that the appointment is likely and noted a recent meeting with CPN‑UML chair and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli.

The current chief minister, CPN‑UML central secretary Hikmat Kumar Karki, will be succeeded under a power‑sharing agreement between the CPN‑UML and the CPN (Maoist Centre) that designates the UML to lead three provincial governments, including Koshi. Menyangbo, a senior party organizer elected from Taplejung Constituency No. 1 (A) in the 2022 provincial election, previously served twice as minister for drinking water, irrigation and energy and briefly held the health portfolio. He first entered federal parliament in 1999 after defeating a Nepali Congress candidate and won his 2022 provincial seat with 12,772 votes.
