Tilba property owners face prolonged rezoning delay

Property owners in Central Tilba, Eurobodalla Shire, are unable to lodge a development application for a second dwelling because a section of their land was rezoned by NSW Roads and Maritime Services during a 2012 Princes Highway upgrade. The land was designated for a depot and equipment storage and was later returned to the council in 2018, leaving the owners to seek a re‑classification back to RU1 Primary Production.

The couple only discovered the rezoning after attempting to submit their application. They have asked councillors Mick Johnson and Colleen Turner to expedite the process, which the council says could take up to 12 months and involves amending the Local Environmental Plan. Eurobodalla Council reported around 90 similar rezoning cases pending. The owners also face an invasive‑species issue with sand brought in during highway works, which the council’s invasive species team is monitoring.
