Tilburg and Hamont-Achel launch community engagement initiatives

Local governments in Tilburg and Hamont-Achel are launching initiatives to encourage civic engagement and community-led projects.

In Tilburg, the municipality is offering support for small-scale initiatives aimed at increasing engagement surrounding the upcoming municipal elections. Residents can organize activities such as neighborhood debates, workshops, or information markets to promote local democracy. The municipality provides up to €250 per activity, along with publicity and logistical support, provided the initiatives remain politically neutral and are free to the public.

In Hamont-Achel, a participatory budgeting program allows residents to propose projects to improve their neighborhoods, focusing on areas like greenery, safety, or sports. The municipal government has allocated a budget of €10,000 for each sub-municipality, Hamont and Achel. Residents can submit ideas until November 8, 2026, after which a voting process will take place in early 2027 to determine which projects will be implemented.
