Tilsa Tsuchiya documentary to premiere in Miraflores
The documentary ‘Tilsa Tsuchiya: el ojo de la luna’ is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, September 27, at 7:00 p.m. at Jazz Zone in Miraflores. Directed by Mario Pozzi-Escot and produced by Sol Pozzi-Escot, the film explores the life and artistic legacy of Tilsa Tsuchiya, a prominent 20th-century Peruvian painter.
The production was created in alliance with Mujeres en las Artes Visuales del Perú (MAV Perú) and serves as a conclusion to the exhibition ‘200 años de rebeldía silenciosa’ in Lima. The documentary draws on the personal friendship between the director and the artist, utilizing archival materials such as a 1974 photograph of Tsuchiya taken by Pozzi.
Tsuchiya, born in Supe in 1928, was known for a unique artistic language that blended Peruvian mythology with Japanese and Chinese influences. A graduate of the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, she received the Grand Gold Medal in Painting in 1959 and later studied in France. Her work is characterized by dreamlike landscapes and hybrid beings.
