Tim Anderson announces retirement from MLB
Veteran MLB shortstop Tim Anderson has announced his retirement from professional baseball at age 33. The former American League batting champion spoke to reporters via Zoom on Monday, citing physical limitations as the primary reason for his decision.
Anderson stated, “I fought to try to get back for the last two or three years. I trained. I just couldn't get the body to operate where it used to.” He added that while he still loves the game, the physical toll of playing has become too great, noting, “It just brought too much pain to me so going back to play is not for me.”
Over a ten-season career, Anderson played for the Chicago White Sox, Miami Marlins, and Los Angeles Angels. He finished with a career batting average of .276, 98 home runs, and 350 RBIs. His career peak included winning the American League batting title in 2019 and earning All-Star selections in 2021 and 2022 while with the White Sox.
