Tim Berners-Lee promotes data sovereignty via Solid protocol

Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, continues to advocate for a decentralized digital landscape. While the first web page was launched at CERN in 1990 as a text-based tool to facilitate information exchange among scientists, the modern web has shifted toward centralized platforms where users often lose control over their personal data.

To address this, Berners-Lee and Inrupt co-founder John Bruce are promoting the Solid protocol. This open-source project aims to restore data sovereignty through Personal Online Datastores, known as Pods. By separating applications from data, users can choose which information to share with specific platforms. Inrupt was established to provide enterprise-grade versions of these protocols to encourage adoption by large organizations and institutions.
