Apple CEO Tim Cook to step down; John Ternus to succeed him
Tim Cook is preparing to step down as CEO of Apple, with John Ternus, currently Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, set to take over the role on September 1, 2026. Cook will not leave the company entirely but will transition into the role of Executive Chairman, where he will continue to manage relations with global governments.
In a recent interview with CBS News, Cook reflected on his 15-year tenure, stating that he hopes his legacy will be defined by others as him being ‘a good and decent man’ rather than by financial achievements or product successes. Since taking over from Steve Jobs in 2011, Cook has overseen massive growth, with recent quarterly revenues reaching $109 billion.
During the same period of transition, Apple executives addressed operational challenges. COO Sabih Khan noted that rising memory component costs are contributing to price increases for products like the iPhone and Mac. Additionally, Apple is expanding its domestic manufacturing footprint in the U.S., with plans to begin shipping Mac mini units produced in the United States later in 2026.
