Tim Ekspedisi Patriot supports community development in Papua Barat Daya
The Tim Ekspedisi Patriot (TEP) from various Indonesian universities are implementing community development projects in Papua Barat Daya.
In the Klamono District of Sorong Regency, the TEP team from Universitas Brawijaya has addressed water scarcity issues affecting local fish farmers. By providing water pumps and installing 300 to 400 meters of hoses to transport water from the Klasafet River, the initiative has successfully reactivated 22 aquaculture ponds that were previously unusable due to prolonged dry seasons.
In the Werianggi-Werabur transmigration area, the TEP team from Universitas Indonesia is working to increase the value of local commodities. They have provided training to members of the Ayawata MSME group on how to process nutmeg seeds into hand sanitizer. The process involves drying, crushing, and soaking the seeds in 70 percent alcohol to extract essential oils. While the effectiveness of the formulation is still undergoing further testing, the project aims to create new business opportunities and improve local welfare.
