Tim Farčnik elected President of the International Biathlon Union
Tim Farčnik has been elected as the new president of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) during the organization's 17th ordinary congress in Berchtesgaden, Germany. Farčnik, a 47-year-old from Kranj, Slovenia, was the sole candidate and received overwhelming support, securing 48 out of 49 votes.
Farčnik succeeds Olle Dahlin, who led the union for the past eight years. The Slovenian official brings over 25 years of experience in the biathlon community, including roles with the Pokljuka organizing committee and serving on the IBU Executive Board since 2020.
In his upcoming four-year term, Farčnik identified the implementation of the ‘Target 2030’ strategy as a primary priority. This strategy focuses on reducing performance gaps, modernizing event formats, expanding the sport's reach to new fans and media, and developing the commercial model, all while maintaining a foundation of sustainability and integrity.
