Pear Lake wildfire near Clinton swells to over 115,000 hectares
The Pear Lake wildfire near the village of Clinton in British Columbia expanded to an estimated 115,438 hectares on August 2, 2026, after growing nearly 25,000 hectares in a single day. The fire is part of the Big Bar complex, which also includes the French Bar Creek, Rim Lake and Bonanza Lake fires.
BC Wildfire Service has deployed more than 500 structural and wildland firefighters, 24 helicopters, 279 personnel, 86 pieces of heavy equipment and 214 structure‑protection units. Outgoing incident commander Bryce Moreira reported strong gusty winds from a cold front that challenged crews, while incoming commander Mark Healey emphasized that ongoing drought conditions are exacerbating fire behaviour. Evacuation alerts remain in place for the Village of Clinton, 70 Mile House, Green Lake and residences along Highway 24 in the Chasm area.
Firefighters are establishing containment lines with heavy equipment and drip torches, protecting structures and working to extinguish spot fires. No new evacuation orders have been issued as fire behaviour is expected to decrease with cooler temperatures and higher humidity.
