Tim Kennedy wounded in deadly Congo ambush

Former UFC fighter and U.S. Army Special Forces veteran Tim Kennedy was wounded in an ambush in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on September 17. Kennedy, who was working as a private contractor, sustained three gunshot wounds to his leg and has been evacuated to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in the United States for treatment.

The security team was part of Vectus Global, a private firm founded by Erik Prince, which was reportedly conducting operations in South Kivu to protect mining revenue, combat smuggling, and assist with tax collection for the Congolese government. The ambush resulted in approximately 20 casualties, including deaths and injuries. Among the deceased was Justin Conaglen, a former member of New Zealand’s Special Air Service (SAS).

Reports suggest the attack may have been orchestrated by rebel forces supported by Rwanda. Some sources indicate that the team's location may have been identified via drone surveillance. The incident marks a significant loss for Vectus Global during its security operations in the eastern provinces of the Congo.
