TIM Brazil posts record Q2 profit, expands fiber and AI plans
TIM Brazil announced a normalized net profit of R$1.036 billion for the second quarter of 2026, a 6.2% year‑over‑year increase. Net revenue rose 5.5% to R$6.965 billion and normalized EBITDA reached roughly R$3.5 billion, lifting the operating margin to 51.5%.
Growth was driven by mobile services, particularly the post‑paid segment that now accounts for about 70% of mobile revenue, and by rapid expansion of the Ultrafibra fiber‑to‑the‑home network, which reached almost 900,000 subscribers, up 12.5% year‑on‑year. The subscriber base grew 6.8% to 33.6 million customers.
CEO Alberto Griselli said the group will use artificial‑intelligence tools to modernise more than 3,300 antennas in 56 cities, partnering with Huawei, but warned against unlimited AI‑driven promotions, recalling the costly “unlimited WhatsApp” mistake. The company also rejected a takeover of Oi Soluções, citing short‑term contracts and a large labor liability as unappealing.
The potential acquisition of Telecom Italia by Poste Italiane was described as “clearly positive,” strengthening the financial position of TIM’s parent and giving the Brazilian arm greater capital‑allocation flexibility.
TIM’s stock was one of only four Brazilian shares that outperformed the CDI benchmark over each of the last five annual windows.
