Robbins also addressed the role of political outrage in modern society, arguing that individuals often use hatred of specific people or political developments as a substitute for personal purpose. He described the tendency to seek virtue through hatred as a “terrible, terrible idea,” noting that people often battle concepts or philosophies rather than individuals.

During the discussion, Robbins reflected on his 1992 directorial debut, “Bob Roberts,” a film centered on a media-savvy conservative politician. He noted that the themes of the film have gained new resonance in the current political climate.
