Tim Rogers puts writing ahead of rock fame as You Am I enters ARIA Hall of Fame

Australian musician Tim Rogers, frontman of the band You Am I, discussed his love of writing in a recent interview, saying, “Sex, drugs and rock’n’roll are great, but it’s the writing I love.”

Rogers, who recently rehearsed for the role of Pozzo in Waiting for Godot in Castlemaine, reflected on his recent induction of You Am I into the ARIA Hall of Fame, noting the paradox of being honored while the band remains “completely broke.” He added, “I’m doing it with a head cold, so the dreariness of some of Samuel Beckett’s writing is feeling right up my weary alley.”

Rogers also remarked on the band’s modest success, describing You Am I as “a medium‑sized deal to a small group of people” and expressing satisfaction with their artistic focus over commercial ambitions.
