Tim Sherwood defends Will Lankshear’s decision to leave Tottenham
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has stated that striker Will Lankshear made the correct decision to leave the club permanently this summer. Lankshear, who was sold to Middlesbrough for £20 million, has seen significant success in the Championship, scoring eight goals in eleven matches across all competitions.
Sherwood suggested that Tottenham’s current strategy of heavy investment in expensive attacking players, such as Savio and Omar Marmoush, effectively blocks the development pathways for academy talent. He noted that while Lankshear previously performed well on loan at Oxford United, he was never granted a genuine opportunity to break into the Tottenham first team.
Lankshear’s prolific form at Middlesbrough contrasts with Tottenham’s recent struggles to score in the Premier League, where the club currently sits at the bottom of the table.
