Tim Tszyu and Erislandy Lara nearing December title fight
Negotiations are nearing completion for a WBA middleweight championship bout between champion Erislandy Lara and Tim Tszyu, expected to take place in Australia this December.
George Rose, head of No Limit Boxing, confirmed that discussions are “close to being finalised.” If the deal is reached, the victory would allow Tszyu to become a two-division world champion. The matchup pits the 43-year-old Cuban tactician against the Australian challenger, who currently holds the WBA's number four position in the middleweight rankings.
Lara has held a version of the WBA middleweight title since 2021 and enters the potential contest on a seven-fight winning streak. The bout is anticipated to be a stylistic clash between Lara’s counterpunching and Tszyu’s aggressive pressure.
