Tim Tszyu defeats Errol Spence Jr., prompting Spence's retirement

Tim Tszyu defeated former unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. by unanimous decision at the Afterpay Arena in Sydney, Australia, on 26 July 2026. The three judges scored the 12‑round bout 118‑110, 117‑111 and 117‑111 in favor of Tszyu.

Spence, 36, announced his retirement immediately after the fight, saying his mental faculties were intact, his finances were secure and he wanted to spend time with his family. He added, "I've got my faculties intact, my money is good and working for itself, everything's good."

The victory was Tszyu's biggest career win, moving him into contention for titles at the higher middleweight level. Trained by former world champion Jeff Fenech, the 31‑year‑old praised his own strength at the new weight and expressed interest in future super‑welter or middleweight bouts.

Spence entered the fight with a record of 28‑2 (22 KOs) after a nearly three‑year layoff, while Tszyu improved his standing in the division with the decisive performance.
