Tim Tszyu to challenge Erislandy Lara for WBA middleweight title

Australian boxer Tim Tszyu has been confirmed to challenge Erislandy Lara for the WBA middleweight championship. The announcement, made by No Limit Boxing, marks Tszyu’s pursuit of a world title in a second weight division following his move to 160 pounds.

Tszyu enters the bout following a unanimous decision victory over Errol Spence Jr. in Sydney this past July, a win that brought his professional record to 28-3 with 18 knockouts. Under the guidance of former world champion Jeff Fenech, Tszyu aims to become the first member of the Tszyu family to hold world titles in two different weight classes.

Lara, a Cuban southpaw with a record of 32-3-3 and 19 knockouts, has held the WBA middleweight title since 2021. He has previously held WBA championships at super welterweight and has never been stopped in his professional career. While the matchup is confirmed, an official date, venue, and broadcaster have not yet been announced.
