TIMAC AGRO opens biotechnology facilities in Lodosa
TIMAC AGRO has inaugurated two new industrial biotechnology and circular economy units at its plant in Lodosa, Navarra. These facilities are designed to develop sustainable fertilizers to combat the effects of climate change on crops.
The new hydrolysis and circular economy unit will utilize thermal and enzymatic hydrolysis to produce up to 6,000 tonnes of liquid ecological nitrogen fertilizer annually. In its initial phase, the plant will process biological waste, such as poultry feathers from local businesses, to create these products.
A second biotechnology unit will focus on developing the company’s INVOC range using proprietary microorganisms. The expansion was attended by regional and national officials, including the President of the Government of Navarra, Maria Chivite, and the circular economy commissioner for Spain’s ecological transition ministry, Alejandro Dorado. Chivite noted that the agri-food sector is a vital component of the regional economy, representing 5% of Navarra’s total GDP.
