Timbalaye Festival celebrates rumba and cultural resistance in Matanzas

The Timbalaye International Festival: The Route of Rumba in Cuba has arrived in Matanzas, marking its latest edition. The event focuses on 'cimarronaje' as a symbol of resistance, freedom, and the preservation of cultural identity.

Scheduled activities include musical and dance performances at the Callejón de las Tradiciones Cultural Center and La Aurora Park. Featured groups include Unión Matancera, Los Matanceros, Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, and the La Rumba soy yo Academy. The festival also incorporates academic dialogue through discussion tables regarding historical resistance.

In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of its publication, the book ‘Biografía de un Cimarrón’ by National Literature Prize winner Miguel Barnet will be presented. The event encourages the use of turbans as a symbol of cultural resistance and features various sociocultural projects such as ‘Por Amor a mi Raíz’ and ‘Turbanteras’.
