Jongno 3-ga named world’s coolest neighbourhood for 2026

Time Out has released its annual ranking of the 40 coolest neighbourhoods in the world for 2026. The list, compiled by a global network of local experts and editors, evaluates districts based on food and drink, nightlife, independent businesses, liveability, and community character.

Jongno 3-ga in Seoul, South Korea, secured the top position. The district is noted for its blend of traditional hanok architecture and modern urban life, specifically its vibrant street food scene and late-night 'pojangmacha' stalls. It rose from third place in 2021 to first this year.

L’Ocean in Rabat, Morocco, was ranked second. This coastal neighbourhood is recognized for its mix of local culture, independent shops, and luxury developments like the Four Seasons. Neos Kosmos in Athens, Greece, took third place, highlighted as a creative hub that maintains its authentic local character.

The top five is completed by Chinatown in Los Angeles, USA, and Govanhill in Glasgow, Scotland. Other notable mentions in the global list include districts in Bangkok, Osaka, Tokyo, Brisbane, and Melbourne.
