TIME unveils 2026 TIME100 AI list of most influential figures

TIME magazine has released its fourth annual TIME100 AI list for 2026, identifying 100 individuals who are significantly influencing the development, deployment, and regulation of artificial intelligence. The honorees are categorized into four groups: Leaders, Innovators, Shapers, and Thinkers.

Prominent leaders include Sam Altman (OpenAI), Elon Musk (xAI), Dario and Daniela Amodei (Anthropic), and Jeff Bezos (Amazon). The list also highlights significant hardware and infrastructure players, such as Larry Ellison (Oracle) and Micron Technology CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, who provides critical high-bandwidth memory for AI models.

The 2026 edition emphasizes global diversity and the expanding reach of AI. Notable inclusions feature Chinese executives like Liang Rubo (ByteDance) and Eddie Wu (Alibaba), as well as significant representation from India, including Vivek Raghavan (Sarvam AI) and Arvind Krishna (IBM). The list also recognizes cultural and social figures, such as actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Senator Bernie Sanders, reflecting the technology's impact on policy, ethics, and society.

In Africa, figures such as Oluwasanmi Koyejo (Virtue AI), Moustapha Cissé (Kera Health Platforms), and Wafa Ben-Hassine (UN) were recognized for their contributions to AI safety, healthcare, and human rights. Additionally, Brazilian activist Veronyka Gimenes was honored for her work in developing open-source models to combat digital hate speech.
