TimeLine Auctions to sell ancient Egyptian and Roman artifacts
TimeLine Auctions will host its 'Wonders of the Past' sale on 8 September, featuring 405 lots of historical artifacts. A primary highlight is a granite base from the 19th Dynasty, circa 1250 B.C., belonging to Prince Parahirwenemef, a son of Ramesses II and Nefertari. The monument contains a previously unattested Egyptian title, 'tpy n mšꜥ', which translates to 'chief of troops'. This piece is estimated to sell for between £40,000 and £60,000.
Other notable items in the auction include a Fayum wooden portrait of a bearded man from Roman Egypt, valued at £18,000-24,000, and two red sandstone Gandharvas from Rajasthan, dated to the 11th-12th century A.D., estimated at £20,000-30,000. The sale also features a 15th-century Flemish carving of St Martin, with an estimated value of £20,000-30,000.
