Romania labor market: unemployment trends and enforcement updates
Labor market data and enforcement actions across various Romanian counties show diverse economic trends. In Timiș, the unemployment rate remained stable at 1.07% as of August 2026, with over 1,900 job vacancies reported, primarily in the private sector and targeting those with secondary education.
In contrast, Bihor saw a slight increase in unemployment to 2.12% at the end of August, with 5,028 registered unemployed individuals, the majority of whom reside in rural areas. Covasna reported a low supply of employment, with only 45 declared vacancies. Meanwhile, AJOFM Alba released updated lists of available positions in Horea and Sântimbru.
Regarding labor law enforcement, the Timiș Territorial Labor Inspectorate (ITM Timiș) issued 53 fines totaling 1,105,500 lei during August 2026. These sanctions followed 250 inspections focused on the construction and hospitality sectors, uncovering 29 cases of undeclared work and various other regulatory non-compliance issues.
