Romania teachers report 225 million lei in tutoring income

Romanian teachers reported a total of 225 million lei in net income from private tutoring in 2025, marking a nearly 14% increase compared to 2024. According to data from the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF), 12,503 teachers declared these earnings, which represents a 2% decrease in the number of individual taxpayers despite the higher total revenue.

Geographically, nearly half of the total declared income was concentrated in Bucharest, Ilfov, Cluj, and Brașov. Bucharest led the rankings with over 59 million lei. In the western region, Timiș county recorded the highest number of unique declarations, including a single teacher who reported gross earnings of 575,000 lei in 2025.

Mureș county reported 7.6 million lei from 505 taxpayers, placing it ninth nationally. While these figures reflect official fiscal declarations, they do not account for the broader market of unregulated tutoring services.
