Timișoara Airport shut for three weeks for runway repairs

The Traian Vuia International Airport in Timișoara will be completely closed from 08:00 on 2 November to 21:00 on 22 November 2026 for essential runway repair work. All commercial arrivals and departures are suspended, and passengers with tickets for that period are advised to contact airlines for re‑booking or refunds and to check for redirects to nearby airports such as Arad or Cluj‑Napoca.

The closure was approved jointly with the Romanian Civil Aviation Authority after a technical meeting in July 2026. While most airlines will reroute flights to Arad, Turkish Airlines is expected to continue operating from Timișoara. Local politicians, including USR Senator Sorin Șipoș, have criticised the decision, citing financial and political concerns. The airport authority stresses that the work prevents winter‑time restrictions and will maintain safety standards.

During the three‑week suspension, the airport will coordinate with airlines to adjust schedules, manage ground services, fuel supply and staffing at the alternative airport, which faces capacity challenges due to the increased traffic.
