Bucharest’s DR1‑Vest Expres radial road approved to link Timișoara Boulevard with A0 highway

Romania’s transport ministry approved the feasibility study for DR1‑Vest Expres, the first radial road of the Orbital Bucharest project. The 10‑km stretch will extend Bulevardul Timișoara to the A0 highway near Domnești, featuring two traffic lanes per direction, a dedicated public‑transport lane, bike paths, six upgraded junctions, Park‑&‑Ride facilities and intelligent traffic‑management systems.

Other infrastructure works across the country are progressing: the new “Pasarela Îndrăgostiților” pedestrian‑bicycle bridge in Timișoara received a construction permit and is set to begin demolition and rebuilding this summer, with an eight‑month schedule and a 7.74 million‑lei contract. In Timișoara, tram lines 1, 2 and 5 will be rerouted from 3 August for extensive track and catenary renewal, with temporary bus substitution. The A3 “Transilvania” highway viaducts at Nădășelu and Topa Mică are nearing completion after installing almost 600 precast girders, with final works expected later this year. The Cluj–Oradea railway modernization faces possible post‑construction delays due to pending signalling systems, according to the Pro Infrastructură association. A road project on DJ 108A between Gârdani and Țicău in Maramureș is also advancing, with bridge demolition and new construction slated for completion by autumn. Finally, Romania has joined a new working group governing the European “Vertical Corridor” gas pipeline, positioning the country to influence future regional gas infrastructure decisions.
