Timișoara City Hall acquires Arena Aqua Sport complex

The Timișoara City Hall is set to take over the Arena Aqua Sport, formerly known as Ștrandul Tineretului, free of charge. The acquisition follows the mutual termination of a concession contract that had been in place since 2004. The complex, located on Calea Dorobanților, will be managed by SCM and integrated into the city's public sports infrastructure.

The facility includes a 50-meter Olympic-sized pool with eight lanes, a children's pool, fitness and aerobics rooms, locker rooms, and an outdoor stage. The transfer includes all associated equipment, such as water filtration systems, thermal plants, ventilation, and security systems. The 7.4-hectare land will also return to the municipality.

Mayor Dominic Fritz stated that expanding sports infrastructure is a key strategy for the city. Additionally, the municipality is in discussions with the Țiriac Foundation regarding the potential construction of an ice rink on the site, which the foundation would later donate to the city.
