Regional public transport upgrades underway in Eastern Europe
Various municipalities across Eastern Europe are implementing significant upgrades to their public transportation networks through new vehicle acquisitions and route expansions.
In Timișoara, Romania, the first of ten new small-sized trams from Turkish manufacturer Bozankaya has arrived. These 20-meter vehicles, funded by European programs, are designed for routes where larger models cannot operate efficiently, specifically lines 7 and 9. The total investment for this lot exceeds 105 million lei.
In Bratislava, Slovakia, Dopravný podnik Bratislava has added three new electric buses to its fleet. The company secured these vehicles and approximately 3 million euros worth of spare parts at no additional cost by strictly enforcing contractual obligations with suppliers.
Other regional developments include the expansion of bus route 24 in Colonița, Moldova, to improve suburban access, and the launch of 12 new metropolitan transit routes in Botoșani, Romania, operated by Eltrans. Additionally, Năvodari, Romania, is implementing a new local transport schedule starting September 1 to better serve students and residents.
In Găești, Romania, the municipality has secured European funding for a new school building to allow for single-shift learning, with the city providing transport support for younger students.
