Timișoara Regional Oncology Institute to serve 60,000 patients annually

The future Regional Oncology Institute of Timișoara (IROT) is set to provide modern medical services to over 60,000 oncology patients annually. The project is being funded through European funds via the Health Program, with a total investment value exceeding 317 million euros.

In the West Region of Romania, over 55,000 people are currently living with an oncology diagnosis, with approximately 9,000 new cancer cases detected each year. The number of new diagnoses rose by more than 12% in 2025 compared to the previous year, making cancer the second leading cause of death in the region.

The new facility will span nearly 65,000 square meters and include approximately 250 hospital beds. It aims to centralize complex oncological services, including prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research, and specialist training, into a single location. The project is a partnership involving the Ministry of Health, the Timiș County Council, and the Timiș Public Health Directorate, with the West Regional Development Agency (ADR Vest) monitoring implementation.
