Timișoara to open first contemporary art museum with Picasso exhibition

Timișoara is set to inaugurate its first permanent contemporary art center, Art Encounters, in mid-September 2026. Located in the historic Casa ISHO building, the center will serve as a hub for artistic research, education, and cultural activities.

The institution's debut will feature an exhibition titled ‘Picasso en visite’, running from September 17, 2026, to January 17, 2027. The exhibition brings 69 works—including paintings, drawings, prints, and ceramics—directly from the Musée Picasso in Antibes. The collection focuses on Pablo Picasso’s 1946 stay in Antibes at the Château Grimaldi.

The new center evolves from the Art Encounters Biennale, which has operated since 2015. The foundation has also established a partnership with S.M.A.K. in Ghent, Belgium, to facilitate professional growth and expertise exchange.
