Timor-Leste wins dismissal of Australian lawsuit

The Supreme Court of Victoria in Australia has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Australian firm Lighthouse Corporation against Timor-Leste. The legal dispute, which originated from alleged contracts in 2010 and 2011, involved claims for the supply of fuel and generators to the state-owned company EDTL - Eletricidade de Timor-Leste.

Lighthouse Corporation had sought approximately 600 million Australian dollars in compensation. However, the Timorese government maintained that no legally binding contract ever existed and characterized the claims as an attempt at large-scale fraud.

The court ordered the dismissal of the case because the Australian company failed to meet the obligation to provide a security bond for costs amounting to 1.3 million Australian dollars.
