Timothy Weah retains Olympique de Marseille captaincy

Olympique de Marseille head coach Bruno Genesio has confirmed that Timothy Weah will retain the club captaincy, effectively ending the dispute regarding Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s role. Although club leadership had previously ordered the removal of the captaincy from the Danish midfielder in August, Genesio stated that he will not reverse the decision, noting that changing it again would not be fair to either player.

Despite losing the official armband, Højbjerg remains a central figure in the squad’s leadership structure. Genesio described him as one of the team’s captains through his actions and influence on the pitch and during training. The coach intends to utilize a collective leadership model, involving a group of senior players including Weah, Højbjerg, Nayef Aguerd, Emerson Palmieri, and Neal Maupay to provide stability to a young Marseille squad.
