Tin Kai-man shares behind-the-scenes stories of Stephen Chow

Actor and former dim sum chef Tin Kai-man has shared several behind-the-scenes anecdotes regarding his career and his long-term collaboration with filmmaker Stephen Chow.

Tin revealed that his entry into the entertainment industry occurred after he filled in for a fellow apprentice. He described joining Chow’s Starry Sky Entertainment, noting that he accepted a one-third salary reduction to avoid causing Chow to lose face. During his decade-plus tenure at the company, Tin worked in nearly every role within the film production teams.

Regarding the classic film ‘Shaolin Soccer’, Tin disclosed that TVB presenter Lam Shing-pan (Bob) actually made his film debut in the production. However, Chow’s pursuit of perfection led to the complete removal of Lam’s scenes, which featured a duo called the ‘Black and White Killers’, in favor of the iconic ‘screwdriver’ sequence.

Additionally, Tin noted that the famous line, ‘I gain or lose hundreds of thousands in seconds,’ was inspired by his own habit of discussing stock prices with brokers via telephone while on set.
