Tina Peters declines election role in Shasta County

Tina Peters, the former Mesa County election clerk convicted of felonies related to the unauthorized access of voting machine software, will not accept a formal position with the Shasta County elections office in California.

Shasta County Registrar of Voters Clint Curtis had previously expressed intent to hire Peters as an assistant registrar or an outside consultant to assist with the 2026 elections. The proposal drew significant criticism from California Governor Gavin Newsom, who characterized the potential hire as a “disgrace.”

Through her attorney, Peters clarified that she has not accepted any formal role with the Shasta County Elections Office. While she indicated interest in discussing ways to assist with election integrity and ballot-authenticity efforts, she stated she is currently too involved in election-related work in Washington, D.C., to take the position. Peters continues to advocate for the discontinuation of electronic voting machines.
