Tinder pauses AI photo enhancement tool after user complaints

Tinder has halted the rollout of its AI‑powered “Photo Enhance” feature after users reported that the tool altered their facial appearance. The feature, introduced in March to improve photo lighting and clarity, was tested in limited markets – 13 U.S. states – and was designed to sharpen images, not modify teeth, skin tone or other facial features. Users such as Jenny Rubin said the edit was "extremely violating" and "uncanny," noting that the AI added teeth that were not present in the original photo. Tinder said the changes affected a very small proportion of users (less than 0.5 % of enhanced photos were flagged) and that the tool is now paused in the states where it was available. The company reiterated that Photo Enhance is intended only to improve technical quality, not to change a person’s look.
